Traveling to Hawaii, like any tropical place, is wonderful because you really don’t need many belongings. Even if you are visiting on a 10-day trip, you’ll be fine with a carry-on suitcase. This also makes it less hassle to travel. Clothes on Maui are simple and laid back. In fact, most of the time you’ll probably be in surf shorts or a bikini.
Let’s start with the basics. Kahana Village provides many of the everyday amenities you will need including soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and laundry products. Properties contain a washer/dryer, bed linens, hair dryers and towels.
Right off the bat, this eliminates many things. For daily use, you’ll need toiletries, intimates, pajamas, t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, a jacket, flip-flops and electronics. Women will likely want to include casual dresses. The go to look for formal wear is a dress for women and an aloha shirt with slacks for men. To hold your items, we recommend a backpack or tote bag. You’ll want to avoid expensive items, especially if you’ll be spending most of your time at the beach or hiking.
Let’s talk about our more exciting items for Hawaii weather. You’ll want sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a water bottle and at least two sets of swimwear. Another positive addition is a book or magazine for reading at the pool or beach. Alternatively, you could listen to a podcast or audio book from your smartphone if you’re concerned about space.
Maui is unbelievable when it comes to outdoor activities. Water sports, hiking, tennis, golf and amazing running trails are at your fingertips. You’ll want shoes, socks, and a shirt and athletic pants you don’t mind getting dirty. Muddy situations can happen easily if hiking trails have recently been rained on.
If you’re planning a trip to Haleakala Summit, you’ll also want warm clothes. It gets so cold here that it can snow. This means you’ll want to layer shirts with sweaters and a heavy jacket. Bring a pair of jeans and close-toed shoes. Honestly, a beanie and gloves may also be in order. Top this outfit off with a Kahana Village blanket and you’re good to go!

GREAT advice. We try to follow this rule. A few trips? Well. Ok, a suitcase or two were involved. This IS the smart way to travel to Kahana Village since there are so many great amenities.
