After a few hours up above the clouds, your airplane has finally touched the ground and you are a baggage claim away from experiencing what Hawaii has to offer. Between the less than satisfying airline food and all that traveling, it should come to no surprise if you are left a little hungry. There are a number of places to eat on your way from the Kahului airport but if you really want to eat like a local, we suggest trying out the Maui food trucks that happen to be close to the landing strip!
Like Poke?
If you love Hawaii as much as we do, you must have heard of poke. With an extensive menu, Like Poke has been serving up fresh fish since 2009! Choose from a list of traditional poke dishes or try out one of the more specialty items like baked or fried poke. Open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 2 pm, this makes the perfect lunchtime stop!
Iine Ramen
With such a diverse culture, it isn’t a trip to Hawaii without a bowl of noodles and Iine Ramen is serving up authentic Tokyo style ramen that everyone is talking about! Since July of 2018, this food truck has become arguably the best ramen in Maui and is a great after flight (or before the flight for those who are heading back home) meal. While hours are variable, Iine Ramen is open Monday to Saturday for both lunch and dinner!
Thai Mee Up
When Thai food meets Hawaiian flavors, magic happens. At least it is happening at Thai Mee Up! From their more traditional dishes like chicken pad thai to the special dishes like their stuffed chicken wings, you probably won’t want to drive by this food truck! And with two locations (one next to the airport and another in Upcountry Maui), this stop fits any part of your vacation itinerary.
Mo ‘Ono Hawaii
From breakfast to dinner and the snack times in between, nothing quite beats a craving than an acai bowl! Mo ‘Ono Hawaii specializes in custom acai bowls and serves them up at an affordable price. Simply choose from the list of standard toppings that come at no extra cost, you can add a little or all! Or upgrade your bowl by opting for the more premium toppings. You might even get a taste of the Hawaiian culture if they happen to have some poi available that day!
The best part? All of these food trucks are nestled in a lot that sits across the street from Costco! If you are traveling to Hawaii on a budget, this is a great place to stock up on tasty ingredients for you to cook up in your oceanfront vacation rental.
